This is a traditional festival which is celebrated among Hindu festival with lot of joy and enthusiasm primarily in Tamil Nadu. This festival is celebrated in the month of Chitrathai which falls between April and May. On this festival, one can Witness parade which feature the image of deity Meenakshi which is carried a to ss chariot.

The festival is celebrating the marriage of Meenakshi an avatar of Goddess Parvati to lord Sundareswar an avatars of lord Shiva. There is belief that two deities unite in a marriage every year during Chitrathaifestival.  The Devotess decorate their hones with flowers and lights as it is celebrated with pomp and show. They also prepare delicious meals and Prasad for devotees. Chitrathai festival is joyous celebration and offers people an opportunity come together and rejoice for marriage of Meenakshi Sundareswarar.

Thus, festival is celebrated in Madurai temple with great excitement and fun by people and this festival is celebrated for 16 days. The festival is associated with lord Vishnu and this marks the financial year beginning.

There are events that takes place and people wants to witness them all over the world for to religious importance but it is also interesting to see. The first event is Kodi Yetram where chief priest declares the opening of festival by hoisting the flag. The Meenakshi is crowned as queen of Madurai for next 4 months.
