But there is common practice amongst tribes of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan and western Madhya Pradesh and they believed that death is just an extension of life. It is common practice that essence of deceased is portrayed through different figure carved in stone which is some in iconographic way. It is to believed that post death, the spirit resides in stores and it provides protection to family and become their guardian angel.

  • The Gathas carvings are being used as memorial stone for dead it serves as memoir for deceased.

  • If priest died, then their stone is given special treatment and is carried around the village with ceremonial fanfare.
  • There is specific day which is decided by installation of gatha by priest after 12th mourning day has passed.
  • Gatha stone are not treated like tombstones but are placed usually above the buried body with the premises if the community.
  • Presence of sun and moon signifies the picture of moon or sun which signifies their game and presence of house signifies they are powerful or wealthy.
  • Placement of stones differs as per the communities.
